Club Instructors handbook

Created by M.Owen

Club Rules

1) Fingers and toenails must be cut short (It is easy to scratch people with long nails)

 2) Judo players should be clean, particularly hands and feet (In any sport cuts and grazes can happen, good general cleanliness will help avoid infection)

3)    Judo suits must be kept clean and in good repair (A clean Judo suit will help avoid infection and damaged suits can be dangerous)

4)    Female members should wear a white T-shirt under their Judo jacket (BJC contest rules say this must be white)

5)    Students with long hair should have it tied up (If hair reaches the collar it should be tied up with a hair tie, no metal or plastic)

6)    Ear rings and jewelry must be removed (For recently pierced ears students can wear studs if they are cover with a plaster)

7)    Students must stay in the Sports Hall (Sports hall and the car park only)

8)    No running in the Dojo (Unless you are told to by Sensei)

9)    No bullying (Always look after lower grades and younger members. It is not good Judo to keep throwing someone again and again just because you can, that is bullying. Good Judo is throwing your opponent cleanly and safely once or twice and spend the rest of the time encouraging them to attack you)

10)    No horseplay (Most injuries are a result or messing about)

11)    Always wear your zori’s to the edge of the mat (Zori's must be worn while going on and off the mats, we must keep our feet and the mat as clean as possible to avoid infection, the sports hall floor is not clean. Alternative suitable footwear is acceptable)

12)    Students are to always ask sensei before leaving the mat (It is important that Sensei knows where people are we don’t want someone going to the bathroom slipping over and not being missed or found until the end of the session)

13)    No drinks to be taken on to the mat (Students are to leave the mat completely if they are permitted to go for a drink)

14)    Pay attention (Judo is a fast moving sport if you are not watching you will miss something or get injured, it is important that students pay attention at all times)

First Aid

In the event of a student requiring first aid treatment the club has a first aid pack which will be on the mat side at all times. Inside the pack will be a accident reporting book, all injuries must be reported in the book.

If a student receives a serious injury, medical assistance can be given by a qualified club first aider in the first instance, although the leisure centre staff must be informed of the situation.

In an emergency situation medical assistance can be summoned by operating the red assistance button found on the outside of the hall entrance door (adjacent to the changing rooms).
